Integrated Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Policy

Infrarail S.r.l. deals with the construction of civil and infrastructural projects in the railway sector, and provides engineering services for Rete Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A., by aligning its business to the voluntary standards ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018.

This regulatory asset constitutes a reference framework for the definition of corporate objectives, and supports Infrarail in the pursuit of its strategic directions, process management, environmental and worker protection as well as the entire community of its stakeholders.

With a view to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) enshrined in the UN 2030 Agenda, Infrarail is committed to operating with Integrity and Ethics, and pursue a business model geared towards Sustainability.

Through this Integrated Policy, which is constantly updated and consistent with corporate developments, Infrarail's Top Management intends to raise awareness and promote the knowledge and application of its Management System by disseminating the culture of continuous improvement to all Stakeholders.

The Policy is intended as a point of reference through the values and principles it contains, and determines the commitment of Top Management to the following goals:

  • Implementing a governance in tune with the goals and the economic context, which supports strategic directions while taking into account the needs of the territory, and the requests brought forward by the stakeholders involved;
  • Ensuring that the activities carried out comply with the functional and performance provisions, the Governance Models, the Code of Ethics and the Organisational Model, pursuant to Legislative Decree No. 231 / 2001, even in the case of outsourced activities;
  • Strengthening the company's appeal and its executive capacity, in order to ensure the consolidation and expansion of its activities, always taking into account any business development opportunities that arise;
  • Ensuring, and, wherever possible, exceeding, the fulfilment of regulatory obligations, the requirements of voluntary standards and the expectations of the customer and other stakeholders;  
  • Ensuring awareness of the Management System's objectives and monitor their state of achievement, with simultaneous identification of improvement gaps and redefinition of new objectives with a view to pursuing continuous improvement;
  • Identifying and assessing all risks arising from its activities and processes, mitigating them with specific preventive actions and checks aimed at reducing or eliminating their effect on previously identified stakeholders and the company;
  • Raising awareness of, involving and empowering and empower its Resources on the importance of their actions, functions and responsibilities and of acting with a view to Sustainability, having in mind the satisfaction of Stakeholders through an active listening and involvement approach;
  • Protecting and enhancing their resources by promoting their professional growth while ensuring a working environment free of any discrimination or stereotypes and supporting an inclusive culture by gender, religion, nationality and origin, sexual orientation and identity, affiliation, disability, health status, age, and social category;
  • Creating a business model and supply chain that integrates sustainability principles into procurement processes;
  • Effectively communicating information to stakeholders on all ESG issues by contributing to the preparation of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group Sustainability Report.

Aware of its responsibility to generate lasting, reliable and usable value for the railway infrastructure, Infrarail is committed to the issues set forth herein, through the adoption of a new system approach, tending towards the implementation of a truly sustainable business model.

In carrying out its activities, Infrarail adopts a Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, geared towards continuous improvement and based on a risk-conscious approach to sustainability, committing itself to:

  • Planning its resources to meet the contractual deadlines agreed with the client;
  • Providing services and perform works in accordance with the level of Quality defined in the contracts, and exceed it, whenever feasible;
  • Involving selected suppliers of products, processes and services to ensure the satisfaction of the Customer and Stakeholders, seeking shared solutions;
  • Constantly monitoring its activities and the market, to optimise its performance by identifying innovative technologies and suppliers; 
  • Increasing Quality through continuous improvement of the Management System.

ENVIRONMENT

Infrarail is committed to establishing a responsible business model that protects the Environment, with particular reference to climate change mitigation, a sustainable use of natural resources, and reduction of pollution and of its own direct and indirect environmental impacts.

The Integrated Environmental Management System, in compliance with Standard ISO 14001:2015, formalizes Infrarail's commitment to:

  • Planning and monitoring its activities to ensure the achievement of its objectives, by periodically analysing the performance achieved with performance indicators, while identifying room for improvement and actions to be taken;
  • Selecting innovative technologies, products and suppliers in order to minimise any environmental impacts;
  • Improving its environmental performance in accordance with the initiatives set out in Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group’s Sustainability Plan 2024-2033, with particular reference to the areas of emissions reduction, sustainable mobility and circular economy;
  • Meeting applicable compliance obligations by periodically mapping applicable regulatory, legal and compliance requirements;
  • Analysing possible environmental incidents to identify appropriate corrective actions and training in order to establish a culture towards the environment that minimises potential negative impacts;
  • Communicating the management of environmental processes to all stakeholders, to ensure full cooperation with local communities while limiting impacts wherever possible;
  • Increasing environmental performance through continuous improvement of the Management System.

WORKPLACE SAFETY

Infrarail pursues continuous improvement in the protection of the Health and Safety of its employees, by eliminating, reducing and controlling Health and Safety hazards and risks, through the adoption of Management System in accordance with Standard ISO 45001, and committing itself to:

  • Planning and monitoring its activities to ensure the achievement of its objectives, by periodically analysing occupational health and safety data, while identifying room for improvement and actions to be undertaken;
  • Improving Health and Safety standards by pursuing a Zero Accidents Culture included in Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group’s Sustainability Plan 2024-2033, with a view to drastically reducing accidents at work;
  • Meeting applicable compliance obligations, by periodically mapping regulatory and legal requirements;
  • Consulting and involving its employees and their safety representatives in planning, implementing, evaluating and improving the performance of the Management System;
  • Analysing the causes of near misses, injuries, accidents and emergencies in order to prevent their recurrence;
  • Increasing the awareness of all employees through training not limited to compliance with mandatory regulations;
  • Involving the supply chain and all stakeholders to promote and embrace best practices that increase a culture of Safety;
  • Encourage each employee to intervene and report whenever Health and Safety risks emerge from unsafe processes, processes and/or behaviour;
  • Increasing Health and Safety performance through continuous improvement of the Management System.

SUSTAINABILITY

The Department undertakes to follow Standard SRG88088 while implementing a third-party-certifiable sustainability management system. The principles provided in the Standard - aimed at promoting a socially-responsible governance - comply with the laws supporting legitimacy, social welfare, prosperity, peace, partnerships, and protection of the Planet.

Top Management promotes, communicates and facilitates the implementation of this Integrated Policy within Infrarail, and undertakes to disseminate it to all external collaborators, suppliers, subcontractors and outsourcers, encouraging them to apply the same principles by dropping them into their value chain.

Infrarail is constantly assessing the need for updates and additions to the existing Policy. Whenever there is a significant change in stakeholder expectations, a change at strategic and/or operational level with regard to the Management System, the Policy is updated and submitted by the Head of Management and Sustainability Systems to Top Management for approval.
